principles of exercise prescription Flashcards
1
Q
goals of inpatient CR
6 of them
A
- identify sig impairments to PA
- offset effects of bed rest
- medical surveillance
- safe return to ADLs
- preparing pt and support system at home
- referral and transition to outpatients
2
Q
important concepts patient should be leaving inpatients CR with
4 of them
A
- understand inappropriate/excessive PA
- safe progression
- referral for outpatient
- understand home exercise equipment use
3
Q
goals of outpatient CR
4 of them
A
- develop/implement safe, effective formal excerise and lifestyle PA program
- supervision/monitor at all times
- on going communication with physician
- provide education to optimize secondary prevention
4
Q
FITT principle for inpatient CR
A
- frequency: 2-4times/day for 1-3 days
- intensity: RPE at or <13
- time: bouts of 3-5 mins w/ 2:1 exercise to rest ratio
- type: walking, mobilization
5
Q
FITT principle for outpatient CR
A
- frequency: at least 3 days a week
- intensity: 40-80% of exercise capacity, RPE 11-16, HR below ischemic threshold
- time: total time: 20-60 mins, w/ warm and cool down 5-10 mins
- type: should focus on rhythmic large muscle group activities
6
Q
what is the purpose of resistance training
7 of them
A
- improve muscles strength and endurance
- decrease cardiac demands during ADLs
- prevent/treat other disease
- increase abiliy to perform ADLs
- improve self confidence
- maintain independence
- slow age/disease related decline in muscle strength/mass
7
Q
who should resistance train?
A
- those who need to improve strength to perform daily tasks
- if they have controlled heart failure, obesity, diabetes
8
Q
can only resistance train if there is no evidence of…
A
- CHF
- uncontrolled arrhythmias
- severe valvular diease
- uncontrolled HTN
- unstable symptoms
