What is a renewable resource?
Can be used over and over again. Is an infinite resource.
What is a non-renewable resource?
Can only be used once.
What is irrigation?
The artificial watering of the land
What irrigation scheme is in California?
Central Valley Project
Advantages of the scheme?
The valley is irrigated in times of drought
The towns and cities in the area have a water supply
Disadvantages of the scheme?
It was very expensive to build, and the cost of pumping the water is high so it increases the cost of the produce.
A lot of the water evaporates from the reservoirs.

- Found in the midlands
- About 8 meters deep

What is HEP?
Hydroelectric power is created by using the force of falling water. A dam is built to trap the water, part of the dam is opened and the rushing water is used to turn turbines and create electricity.
What is solar energy?
Solar cells are trapped by solar panels and used to create electricity
What is geothermal energy?
Geothermal energy is created by pumping water deep into the earths crust. The water is heated by the earths crust which can be used to heat homes.
What is tidal energy?
The power of rising and falling tides can be used to turn turbines, creating electricity
What is wind energy?
Wind turn a turbine and create electricity
Reasons for overfishing
- Members of the EEC
- Modern technology (radar and sonar)
- Small mesh sizes
- Lack of seasons and quotas
Steps to sustain stocks of fish?
- Creation of conservation zones
- Introduction of quotas
- Ban on endangered species
- The shortening of the fishing seasons
- The increase in mesh size
What does a farming system contain?
Inputs, processes and outputs
