Primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC) =
Long-term liver disease in which thebile ducts in the liver become damaged. This gradually leads to a build-up of bile in the liver, which can damageit and eventually lead to cirrhosis. This is more common in females.

Granulomatous Inflammation involving the bile ducts, Loss of intra-hepatic bile ducts, Progression to cirrhosis.
Primary biliary cirrhosis Complications:
Complications: Sjogren/Sicca Syndrome (in 70% of people)
Hepatocellular Cancer (20x fold increase)
Portal hypertension
Malabsorption.
Primary biliary cirrhosis - M Rule:
M Rule: IgM elevated, Middle aged females, anti-Mitochondrial antibodies +ve, M2 subtype
Primary biliary cirrhosis - Symptoms:
usually asymptomatic may be Fatigue Itchy Skin Dry eyes Dry mouth Abdominal Pain (Right upper quadrant)
Primary biliary cirrhosis -Treatment:
UDCA (Ursodeoxycholic Acid)
Liver Transplant for end-stage liver disease
