Prevalence Flashcards
PA prevalence and trends
All-cost mortality
Death from any cause
Effect size
The size of the difference between two or more groups or conditions
Epidemiology
The study of distribution and determinants of a health related events or state in a population. This study can allow for control of health conditions
Exposure
The dose to a specific risk factor (level and duration)
Confounding Variable
A variable which MISDIRECTS the true effect
Dose response
The relationship between the level of exposure and disease response
Generalisability
The extent in which the results apply to different populations
Incidence
The new cases of conditions developing in a population
Health status
Disease specific quality of life
MET
Metabolic Equivalent of Task
A measure of energy cost of physical activities.
(rest metabolic rate; O2 uptake of 3.5ml kg-1 min-1)
Prevalence
The number of cases of a disease in a population at a given time
Population-attributional risk
The incidence of a disease in a population attributional to a population specific characteristic
Relative risk
The ratio of occurrence of a disease among exposed people compared to non exposed
Primary care
First level health contact (eg NHS)
Secondary prevention
Decrease in risk mortality and mobility in patients with existing disease
