def

A

Defined as labour that occurs after 20 weeks but before 37 weeks’ gestation (less than 259 days from the date of the last menstrual period). It is characterised by “regular” uterine contractions, with >2cm dilation or >80% effacement

WHO definition = the presence of contractions of sufficient strength and frequency to effect progressive effacement and dilation of the cervix, between 20- and 37-weeks’ gestation

how do we confirm PROM/PPROM

A

test the ph using nitrazin paper, strips will change from yellow to blue if ph >6

ferning test : under microscope a particular pattern is seen
nile blue test - fetal fat cells in amniotic fluid stained with Nile blue - turns red
