How to form the gerund of a verb: base form + ING?
1) For most verbs: base verb + “ing” (e.g., play - playing)
2) Verbs ending in “e”: remove the final “e” and add “ing” (e.g., dance - dancing)
3) One-syllable verbs with a vowel preceded by a consonant: double the final consonant and add “ing” (e.g., run - running)
4) One-syllable verbs with a vowel preceded by a consonant and stressed on the last syllable: don’t double the final consonant (e.g., open - opening)
