- the prescription was issued prior to the prescriber’s chagne of status
- Non-controlled substances-entitled to 30 day supply
- Controlled substances: entitled to 72 hours supply
- After dispensing, pharmacist must invalidate the remaining portion of the prescription and the remaining portion of the prescription is considered void
Can a pharmacist dispense a prescription that was issued after the prescriber’s change of status?
No, has to be prior to their change of status
A doctor write a prescription, they scan it and make it a pdf and then email pdf to pharmacy. Is this a legal prescription?
No, has to be electronic software (computer to computer)
Doctor wrote prescription before they die, are patients asks to get it filled? Can pharmacist fill?
yes, they can as long as the prescriber wrote it before they died
For non-controlled substances, how many day supply can the pharmacist dispense up to?
30 day supply
For controlled substances, how many day supply can the pharmacist dispense up to?
Pharmacist may dispense up to a 72 hours supply
What if patient already has 3-month supply prescribed?
Doesn’t matter can only get a 30day supply (would need to re-submit a new prescription after 30 day supply)
in general, can a physician send a prescription from their computer to pharmacy fax machine?
no they cannot
