Determine venipuncture site accessibility based on patient age and condition
A
- Arm should be extended and straighten from shoulder to wrist
- Median cubital, basilic, or cephalic veins may be used
- Veins should be spongy, bouncy, and palpated for depth, direction and size
- If neither arm presents a vessel that can be palpated, next choice is dorsal part of hand
- Do not drAw close to tendons and bones in hand
