Inform patient:

A
  • No pain associated with test
  • Empty bladder at least 10 minutes prior to the EKG
  • Wear loose clothing
  • Rest 30 minute before test
  • Takes 5 minutes for actual test
  • Position:Supine of semi-fowlers
  • Disrobe to waist and provide access to upper arms and lower legs

Patients with special considerations

A
  • when right side EKG is performed leads are placed in mirror image to leads placement on left side
  • If below elbow amputation, arm leads may be attached to upper arm
  • If lower leg amputation leads may be attached to the thigh
  • When posterior leads are to be attached: V7 goes to posterior axillary line, V8 goes to midscapular region, and V9 at paraspinal location
