Factitious disorder imposed on another
Falsification of physical s/sx of a disease or induction of injury or disease in another person
The individual presents another individual (victim) as ill, impaired or injured
No external rewards
Behavior not explained by another mental disorder
The perpetrator, not the victim recieves the dx
Specifier: single episode or recurrent episodes

Malingering

Borderline personality disorder
Mental or medical condition not associated with intentional sx falsification
Malingering
What is malingering?
Malingering is the intentional production of false or grossly exaggerated physical or psychological sx
Its motivated by external reward
Most malingerers are male
Most have obvious reason for feign illness
Management of Somatic symptoms and Related disorders.
- Avoid invasive dx and therapeutic procedures
- Refrain from treating equivocal/incidental exam findings
- Help patient cope with stress when disorder is a trasient situational reaction
Main Tx
- Psychotherapy
- Pharmacotherapy only when patient has an underlying/co-morbid condition
Dx Criteria for Conversion Disorder (Functional Neurological symptom disorder.
A. One or more sx of altered voluntary motor or sensory sx
B. Clinical finding proving evidence of incompatibility of the symptoms with the recognized mental or medical disorder
C. Sx/deficit is not explained by another mental or medical condition
D. Sx/deficit causes clinically significant ditress or impairment in social, occupational or other important area of functioning.
What are the specifiers of Conversion disorder.
Conversion disorder with
- with weakness/paralysis
- with abnormal movement
- with swallowing sx
- with speech sx
- with attacks/seizures
- with anesthesia/ sensory loss
- with special sensory sx (visual, olfactory or hearing disturbances)
- with mixed sx
Other specifiers of Conversion disorder
- Acute/persistent
- With psychological stressor (specify stressor), or without psychological stressor
