What are the aims of premed?
A
- Sedation/ anxiolysis
- Reduction of stress
- Reduce amount of other anaesthetic agents
- Helping make a balanced anaesthesia
- Help with a smooth, quiet recovery

How long lasting are the effects of A2s?
A
approx 1 hour (so not very)

What must you remember to do with the dose of induction/ maintenance agents after giving A2 to smalls?
A
Dramatically reduce them

What are some of the negative effects of A2s?
A
- Decrease HR
- Decrease cardiac output
- Decrease oxygen deliver to CNS, kidney, brain, heart
- Increase in urine production due to reduced vasopressin/ renin secretion: bladder could potentially rupture
