It is best to avoid “corte” unless it is the term of choice of the respondent or unless referring to the Supreme Court (“la Corte Suprema”).

Notario (n.)

A

Notario
NOTE: In Latin America a “notario” generally denotes a person who is authorized practice law and to give legal advice. However, a notary, or notary public, in the U.S. is generally not an attorney, but rather someone State-authorized to authenticate official documents and the identities of people signing them. There are people in the U.S. who pose as “notarios” misleading others into entrusting them with their legal affairs. It’s best to keep this term as “notario” when interpreting since the meaning of this term is generally understood by immigration judges and attorneys.
