Question 2

What is the management of term rupture of membranes?

Answer 2

1. Check lie and presentation, CTG, HSV, MSU, blood cultures, start antibiotics if necessary.
2. Induce immediately if HIV+, GBS+, HSV genital infection, meconium stained liquor, signs of infection.
3. If spontaneous labour not commenced by 24 hours, induce and antibiotics - vaginal prostaglandins followed by oxytocin infusion if contractions not started by 6 hours.
