What should be checked during every antenatal visit?
Blood pressure and urine
What should be done in the booking appointment and when does it take place?
- Full history and examinations
- Hb electrophoresis, blood group, rhesus status
- Syphilis, rubella, HBV, HCV, HIV status
- MSU for protein, bacteria and glucose
- General pregnancy advice
- Antenatal classes, maternity benefits, free dental care
- 8-12 weeks
What should be done during the dating scan and when does it take place?
- Crown-rump length
- Combined test - maternal age, nuchal translucency, PAPP-A, bHCG (chromosomal abnormality screen)
- 11-13+6 weeks
What is the quadruple test and when is it done?
- Maternal age, AFP, HCG, inhibin, oestradiol
- Screen for Down’s syndrome
- 14-22 weeks
What is done during the anomaly scan and when does it take place?
- Detecting congenital malformations of all organs and systems
- 18-22 weeks
When should anti-D be offered to Rh-ve pregnant women?
28 weeks
When should the whooping cough vaccine be offered to pregnant women?
28 weeks
What is does during the 28 week appointment?
- Anti-D if Rh-ve
- Whooping cough vaccine
- OGTT in history of diabetes/BMI >30/ethnic minority
- Sleeping should be in left lateral position from now on
What is done during the 34 week appointment?
- Give second Anti-D dose if RH-ve
2. Discuss labour and birth, pain relief
What is done during the 36 week appointment?
- ECV if abnormal lie
2. Discuss breastfeeding, neonatal vitamin K, postnatal care, postnatal depression, baby blues.
What is done during the 40 week appointment?
Discuss post-dates pregnancy and its management
What is done during the 41 week appointment?
Offer membrane sweep and book induction of labour by 42 weeks
