What was life like in pre industrial Britain?
Class division clearly existed (upper class and lower class) based on a feudal system.
Communication and transport was limited.
Wide spread Illiteracy lower classes where uneducated with little ability to read and write.
People lived in the countryside/rural areas.
Cruel or existences (violent) were the norm for the lower class. The upper class lived in comfort and luxury.
There was limited free time as work was based on the land free time was dictated by the agricultural season’s.

Popular recreations-the sport and pastimes of people in preindustrial Britain.
Feudal system- broadly defined it was a way of structuring society around a relationship derived from the holding of land in exchange
Popular recreations- identified during pre industrial Britain. Long hours of work for the lower class meant popular recreation was occasional. Therefore restricted to annual events when the agriculture Callander allowed their participation.

Member of the gentry who looked after the lower class audience eg . By arranging competitions for them to participate in putting up prize money and generally looking after the welfare of the performer.
Why were popular recreations activities eventually banned in the 19th century?
The violent or unruly I nature
They led to damage of property
They led to injury or death in some cases
They involved gambling/wagering
They where linked to alcohol consumption/drunken behaviour
