How did the limitation of transport and communication effect sports
People would’ve been unable to transport to fixtures far away and people would not have been able to communicate where and when games were
What was the effect of wide spread illiteracy throughout the lower class on sport
People would have been unable to understand rules and regulations
What was the effect on class division on sport?
Lower class were unable to pay fo the sporting activities
How did people living in rural areas effect their chances of participating in sport ?
They live on farms so they would have to be working the whole day and may not have the facilities for it as they live on a farm.
How did limited free due to work usually based on land effect participation in sport ?
Free time depended on the agriculture seasons so there may not have been enough time to participation in sport.
How did the cultural/economic differences of upper and lower class effect their participation in sport?
Upper class had more free time and had the money to provide the resources needed to play sport whilst the lower class did not.

Played by lower class. Played in local areas. Played using natural resources {pig bladders}. Played occasionally. Male dominated
Real tennis
Played by the upper class. High moral code. Upper class had more spare time to play. Good equipment and facilities. Skilful game. Upper class had travel ability.
Patron
Member of the gentry who looked after the lower class performer, e.g. by arranging competitions to take part in.
Athletics
Known as foot racing, messengers / pedestrians would compete in races of who could reach a certain distance in the fastest time walking or running
Characteristics of popular recreation linked to pre-1970 festivals included
Rural, rulers were simple, they occurred annually, events were local, betting occurred
Why were popular recreation activities banned in the 19th century
Violent, led to injury or possibly death, property damage, too much gambling, linked to drunken behaviour
