Sea traders
Dominated from 1400-1200 BCE
They adopted the Minoan alphabet
They had warrior kings that built fortresses
Why the did Trojan war occur?
Historical: The Trojans had control of the strait of Dardanelles and the Mycenaeans wanted it which caused economic tension
Legend: Prince Paris of Troy fell in love with Helena of Mycenia and he kidnapped her away from the king. The king of the Mycenaeans tried to get her back by attacking Troy. This ended with the Trojan horse and try being ransacked.
What did the Trojan war lead to?
The Trojans lost the war
Troy was ransacked
The Dorians took over after the Mycenaeans spent too much on war
What is the Aeneid?
A historical poem that includes the Trojan horse
Who were the heroes of the Trojan war?
Achilles: On the Mycenaean side, killed by Prince Paris when he is shot in the ankle
Hector: On the Trojans side, gets wrecked by Achilles
Who were the Dorians? Were they good?
They were sea raiders who took over Greece after the Trojan war
They were far less advanced that the Mycenaeans
They were not good for Greece
Who was Homer?
He was a writer who lived around 750 BCE

Iliad: Achilles. Is about a hero fighting in the Trojan war.
Odyssey: Odysseus. About an adventure.
Homer wrote about the Trojan horse. Why is his writing not considered to be solid proof of the horse existing?
No because he lived hundreds of years after the war ended and he was blind.

The Sea: Greeks all lived on the water within 90 miles each other
The Land: Mountains divided the land, 1/4 of it was farmable, they always wanted more land
The Climate: Greece has a mild climate that encouraged outdoor interation
