Define mummification.
Mummification was the process that the Egyptians used to preserve bodies. The body’s organs were removed then the body was dried. It was placed inside of preserving perfumes and stuffed with a filler such as hay. It was then wrapped in linen and put inside of a coffin.
Why did the Old Kingdom decline?
The Old Kingdom declined because of Egypt going bankrupt. This happened because of too much money being spent on pyramids.
What is the order of the reign of pharaohs during the New Kingdom?
Nefertiti/Akhenaton King Tut Hatshepsut Thutmose Ramses
What is the afterlife, how do you get there?
The afterlife was called The Field of Reeds and was practically paradise. You got their by passing through the hall of the gods by satisfying the gods with answers to their questions. Then your heart is weighed. If your heart weighs as much as the feather of truth you can pass to the after life.
What is King Ramses known for?
Ramses created giant 70 foot tall statues in the South of Egypt to intimidate the Nubians. These statues had ears 3 feet tall and were carved into a mountain. Ramses did this to announce that he was a god as well.
What does Narmer’s hat symbolize?
The unification of Upper and Lower Egypt.
What was Queen Hatshepsut known for?
Queen Harshepsut was known for wearing a fake beard to look more like a man so that she would seem more of a stronger leader. She also was known for encouraging trade. She may have been killed by her stepson Thutmose III.

Unification: 3100 BCE
Old Kingdom: 3100-2180 BCE
Middle Kingdom: 2060-1640 BCE
New Kingdom: 1570-1075 BCE
Who took over Egypt the very end and why?
The Lybians because Egypt was unstable, had no leadership and was taken over by Nubia.
What was the Book of the Dead and how did it benefit the pharaohs?
The book of the dead was a book that contained all of the answers needed to advance to the afterlife.
Who combined Upper and Lower Egypt?
King Narmer in 3100 BCE.
What geographic advantages did Egypt have?
Egypt’s surrounding desert provided protection from attacking enemies. It’s Nile river also provided water for irrigation for farming, transport, water and food. Some disadvantages may be that the desert prevented many nations from trading or sharing technology’s with it and isolated Egypt.
Why was the Nile so central to the Egyptian Empire? How did it impact development of ancient Egypt?
Egypt could not expand too far past the Nile or else they would run out of water and land that was worth developing. On either side of the Nile there was desert.
Who were the Nubians and what role did they play in Egyptian history?
The Nubians were an empire that were located to the South of Egypt. Egypt had a positive relationship with them, they traded and shared technologies. Nubia eventually made a move to try and take over Egypt when it was weak during it’s decline. Egypt didn’t resist but after Nubia took over, Lybian’s eventually took Egypt.
Who were Akhenaton/Nefertiti?
Pharaohs that ruled during the new kingdom. They were king and queen together. They are the parents of King Tut and Akhentaton changed the religion.
