A

This temple was built to honor the godess Athena. It was built on the Athenian Acropolis from 447-432 BCE. It featured a huge statue of Athena made out of gold and ivory. The temple was used to show Athen’s wealth, glory, democracy and power.

The Athenians needed a patron God for the city of Athens, so there was a contest between the two gods Athena and Poseidon. Athena created an olive tree to help the citizens while Poseidon created a spring. Athena was deemed the winner and became the Patron.
