Pre-Flight and Fuel Requirements Flashcards
The PIC of the aircraft shall ensure that all the pax and crew on board are briefed on what 5 basic items?
1) Location and operation of emergency and normal exits
2) Location and operation of restraint devices
3) Operation of seats and seat backs
4) Stowage of carry-on bags
5) No Smoking
What are the fixed wing and helicopter day and night VFR fuel requirements?
What are the IFR Fuel requirements for a propeller-driven airplane, where an alternate aerodrome is specified in the flight plan?
Fuel enough to fly to the destination, execute an approach and a missed approach. Then to fly to and land at the alternate aerodrom, as well as another 45 min of flight time
What are the IFR Fuel Requirements for a turbo-jet powered plane where an alternate is specified in the flight plan?
Fuel enough to fly to the destination, execute an approach and a missed approach. Then to fly to and land at the alternate aerodrom, as well as another 30 min of flight time
In the case where it has been authorized to not require an alternate aerodrome in the flight planning, what are the fuel requirements for an IFR flight for a propeller-driven plane and a turbo-jet plane?
Fuel enough to fly to the destination, execute an approach and a missed approach. Then to fly for an additional 45 min for a prop plane and an additional 30 min for a turbo jet.
What is the definition of Reserve Fuel?
Reserve Fuel is EXTRA fuel carried for the unforeseeable - what cannot be planned for. We are not suposed to touch reserve fuel on a flight
What is the definition of Contigency Fuel?
Fuel carried for the foreseeable things we can plan for:
- Weather (to go around or divert)
- Traffic (high traffic, holds)
- Extra Taxiiing (large airports, holding short, waiting, etc)
- Unfamiliar with area
- Flying around a body of water when no floatation devices are carried
- Etc
Fuel things to remember for the exam…
- If given, add Contigency Fuel to the total fuel
- Required fuel on any exam will include: Climb, Cruise, and Reserve
- If given, include taxi fuel in the Required Fuel
- Used Fuel is what is burned off during the flight or a portion of the flight: Taxi, climb, cruise tend to be what the exam will ask you to calculate
The type of plane is very important on the exam when it comes to fuel requirement questions. What do turbine powered aircraft (turbo-prop, turbo-fan, and turbo-jet) use as fuel and what does it weigh?
Jet Fuel - 7lbs/US Gallon
