Dred Scott Decision

A

Took place in 1856. Slave who sued for his freedom after owner died in Freestate. The supreme Court decided three things:

  1. Black people are not citizens at all
  2. Black people cannot sue because they are not citizens
  3. Congress can not deny slavery

Joshua Glover

A

Milwaukee very abolitionist. Runaway slave for Mom to Racine and lived there for two years. Citizen calls him in to police, and he goes to jail in Milwaukee. There are massive protest, with lots of the city’s population there. They decide to break Joshua Glover out of jail, and Sherman booth leads it. They get him to Canada by blowing the wall out of the prison. Sherman booth is arrested when he returns the US, but he knows the president and gets out of jail.
