South: had lots of plantations, imported lots of other needs

North: mostly waited for south to come at them, put in place the anaconda plan to barricade them, take over the Mississippi River, make it better army
South: Full force into battle, and try to get other countries on their side

Destroys everything in path. “Sherman’s March to the sea”
Emancipation proclamation
Lincoln says all slaves areas of rebellion are free. However you cannot technically free the slaves because they are in another country. He did this just so that England and France would move farther from the south
Medical care
There was not much medical care at the time, because there were so many deceased. If you were shot, you would most likely have that part of your body amputated. With or without it, you could get infection and die. That’s what happens most often
Civil war prisons
Brutal, abusive. Biggest was in the south with northern soliders
African Americans of the war
Could fight with the north if they were escaped slaves. Could fight with south for chance of freedom. free blacks often fought in their own regiments
