Practical Flashcards
what was the aim in the biological practical?
to investigate the correlation between testosterone (shown by 2D:4D ratio) and aggression (aggression questionnaire)
what was the sample for biological research? what type of sampling was used?
20 psychology students
- 10 males and 20 females
- opportunity sampling
what was the procedure for the biological practical? (6)
1-ppts completed an aggression questionnaire asking 10 questions about aggressiveness on a 4 point scale
2-the ppts ring and index fingers were measured
3-measured the ratio between the two
4-the results of both variables were plotted on a scatter graph to measure correlation
5-a spearman’s rho was calculated
6-ppt debrief
what were the results of the biological practical? (2)
critical value= 0.35
rS= 0.08
what were the conclusions from the biological practical?
- rS not greater than critical value=no significance
- the relationship between the level of testosterone and the level of aggression is insignificant
what was the null hypothesis?
there will be no significance between the relationship of the 2D:4D ratio and the aggression questionnaire score
what was the one-tailed hypothesis? (directional)
the smaller the 2D:4D ratio, the higher the score in the aggression questionnaire
what was the two-tailed non-directional hypothesis?
there will be a positive relationship between 2D:4D ratio and score on the aggression questionnaire
