Q

What prevents the power levers from inadvertantly being selected to below Flight Idle?

A

Flight Idle Gate Release triggers must be lited to bring the power levers below flight idle.

The Beta Warning Horn System will activate when either release trigger is lifted while in flight (above 20 ft. Rad Allt or no weight on wheels).

Do not Shut down Engine

  • Alternate Feather Switch (affected engine)…..Norm (check alternate advisory light out).
  • Condition Levers…..Max
  • Power Lever (affected engine)…..Advance. Do not exceed 1212rpm.
  • Power Lever (non affected engine). As required to maintain desired flight profile.
  • Land immediately at nearest suitable airport.
26
Q

Where does the PCU receive its oil from?

A

Oil Pump powered by reduction gear box

27
Q

What happens to the propeller if the engine looses oil?

A

A pitch lock prevents blad angle reducing by more than 1° and RPM more than 2%.

28
Q

How is blade angle set when in the beta range?

A

Power lever input to PCU.

29
Q

What is the propeller prohibited range?

A

500-780rpm

30
Q

What is the beta back system? How would you know it was operating? What are the MEMORY ITEM DRILLS for this?

A

Prevents propeller operating in beta ground range unintentionally due to PCU malfuction. Propeller ground range 1 or 2 lights will turn on and off. QRH instructs to advance the power lever.

31
Q

When will the Auto-feather arm?

A
  • When Auto Feather is selected
  • Both PLAs meet PL/OAT requirements
  • Both TQs above 38%
32
Q

When will the Auto-feather activate?

A
  • When both PLAs meet PL/OAT requirements.
  • One TQ below 28% and other above 38%.
  • After 3 second delay.
33
Q

How long is the Auto-feather system time delay?

A

3 seconds

34
Q

What system protects the Propeller and Power Turbine if the Power Lever is below Flight Idle in flight?

A

Beta Lockout System

35
Q

What conditions are required for Beta Lockout System (BLS) to be activated?

A
  • Armed above 50ft. Rad. Alt.
  • Weight off Weels
  • PLA microswitches

When these conditions are met, if the RPM is above 1000, blade angle is coarsened to reduce rpm back below 1000. This deactivates the system, causing rpm to rise above 1000rpm, which reactivates the system. Cycle continues.

ECU is automatically reverted to Manual. Engine Ignition is automatically activated when PLA is below FI in the air.

36
Q

If the left hand propeller was cycling around 1000rpm after take-off, what has happened? What ill the QRH lead you to do to remedy this?

A

Caused by microswitch failure.

  • Auto Feather…..off
  • Power Levers…..Reduce to Climb Setting
  • Condition Levers…..Min/900rpm (Check cycling stops)
37
Q

Once energised, the Aux. feathering pump runs for how long?

A

18 seconds

38
Q

Is automatic power up-trim available if the auto-feather is disarmed?

A

No

39
Q

During which phases of flight is the synchro-phase used?

A

Climb/Cruise/Descent

40
Q

The propellers should be within how many RPM before prop sync is turned on?

A

20rpm

41
Q

Minimum NH during start to move the conditoin lever to start feather (Fuel on) is:

A

10%

42
Q

What are the Memory item drills for APU fire?

A

Confirm APU automatic shutdown (APU RUN adivsory light out and APU BTL discharges).

IF APU BTL or APU FIRE advisory light remains illuminated:

  • Extg Switch…..Extg
43
Q

What is the NTOP Horsepower Rating?

A

2142 SHP

44
Q

What is MTOP horsepower?

A

2380SHP

45
Q

Oil Required for Engine and Propeller

A

22.7L capacity for engine oil system. 6.5L in propeller hub.

46
Q

When does the Oil pass through the cooler and when is it bypassed?

A

Oil is sent through the oil cooler if the temperature is greather than 80°C and by passed if less than 75°C. It is partially bypassed if between 75°C and 80°C.

47
Q

What are the funcitons of the ECU?

A
  • Precise fuel scheduling to the engine when P/L is forward of flight idle.
  • Maintains 785rpm (when below flight idle) or 1140rpm (when below DISC) for ground operation.
  • Provides power up trim function following an engine failure (Increase power of good engine by 10% of current TQ setting).
  • NH Overspeed protection when above 105.8% NH.
48
Q

Consequences of ECU on Manual

A
  • No precise fuel control.
  • No NH overspeed protection provided
  • No underspeed protection (don’t reduce power lever below DISC).
  • No compressor stall protection (Overbleed valve remains closed)
  • Tq. will increase by up to 10%
  • No Power up trim.
  • ENG Manual Caution.
49
Q

How is Quite Taxi Mode Activated?

A

With condition lever set to MIN. This will maintain 785rpm, even if in reverse.

50
Q

What is the difference between Alpha and Beta mode with propeller control?

A

In Alpha, blade angle is controlled with the condition levers. In Beta, blade angle is controlled with the power levers.

51
Q

In an aborted take-off, what will disable power up trim?

A

Retarding both power levers.

52
Q

What is the Auto Feather and Uptrim Sequence?

A
  • ECU up-trims the good engine by 10% torque.
  • Up trim advisory light comes on

After 3 second delay:

  • Prop Feather begins
  • Feathering of other prop is inhibited and prop Fx begins
  • ECU undserspeed function is cancelled
  • Auxilary Feather Pump activates for 18 seconds
  • Feather Pump advisory light is on while pump is running
53
Q

Describe Start Sequence and What to Monitor

A
  • Set ignition to AUTO
  • Select Engine on Select Switch (Select light illuminates)
  • Press START switch (START caption illuminates) (NH starts increasing)
  • At 10%-19% NH, condition lever to START/FEATHER.
  • Observe fuel flow
  • Oil pressure indicates at approximately 35% NH
  • Monitor NH and ITT
  • At 63% + or - 2%, NH SELECT switch returns to neutral position and START caption oges out.
  • Engine idles at 75% NH + or - 3%.
