PowerMax and VMAX All Flash Solutions Design (SRDF/S Operations) Flashcards
How is a write conducted in SRDF/S?
IO write received from host to primary array cache
IO transmitted to secondary array cache
receipt acknowledgement from secondary to primary
ending status presented to host
What is Concurrent SRDF?
single primary volume remotely mirrored to two secondary volumes concurrently
typically configured w/ combination of SRDF/S and SRDF/A to two different locations
What is Cascaded SRDF?
three site configuration replicating from a primary to a secondary array and from the secondary array to a third site
combination of SDRF/S and SRDF/A
What is SRDF/AR?
fully automated backup solution using TimeFinder and SRDF to provide replication of a data image
production data is locally mirrored w/ TimeFinder ehich then synchronously mirrored to a secondary array
What is SRDF/Star?
advanced multi-site solution covering three geographically dispersed data centers
uses a combination of SRDF/S and SRDF/A to protect the primary site data
available in cascaded and concurrent configurations
What is a dependent write?
a write that is not issued by the application unless a prior IO has completed
Why do applications like databases use dependent writes?
to ensure data entegrity in the event of a failure
What is a consistency group?
a composite group of SRDF devices w/ consistency enabled
used to preserve the write-dependent consistency of devices within a group by monitoring data propagation from the source and target
What happens if consistency group detects any write IO to a primary device that can’t communicate w/ its secondary device?
remote mirroring for all devices in the CG is suspended
What does SRDF/CG do?
prevents a dependent write IO from reaching the secondary site if the previous IO only gets as far as the primary site
allows quick recovery from certain types of failure or physical disasters by retaining a consistent restartable copy of data
What is SRDF/CG available for?
SRDF/S and SRDF/A
