in act 1 scene 5 lady macbeth calls upon darkness ‘blanket of the dark’ but then in act 4 scene 1 she ‘has light by her continually’ trying to banish the darkness, irony as at the start she told Macbeth ‘a little water washes us from this deed’ but now the guilt is getting to her and is effecting her
