why can’t Macbeth stop killing people after he killed Duncan?
one bit of ambition can lead to someone being ruthless, he is very selfish of his potion heading him to get worse and murdering anyone who is a threat to him
how is ambition portrayed in the play
ambition is portrayed as dangerous through the play because of how quickly it can get out of control. this is shown through the progressions of murders from macbeth considering mortality of Duncan to not hesitating for Banquous + Macduff family
what is ‘hamartia’ and what is Macbeths hamartia?
hamartia is the fatal character flaw of the tragic hero. ambition is macbeths hamartia leading to his tragic downfalll. he kills his best friend for power and ambition showing his madness
how do the macbeths show ambition in the play?
they both have ambition to have power but eventually their ambition is destroyed. Macbeth lets manipulation take over her even when he was conscious of his actions much show the danger of ambition. Ambition grew so much in Macbeth he used manipulation like his wife in order to obtain power
how does the play show ambition?
shows ambition as a huge warning that isn’t balanced by morals and reason it’s a warning from the gun powder plot warning them not to consider committing such big crimes
how does malcom show ambition in the play?
‘it weeps, it’s bleeds each day a new gash’ personified on how scotland is under macbeths ruling it also shows the pain it’s going through and how malcom wants to help heal it from taking power away from macbeth he has ambition for his country
how does banquo display ambition in the play?
he is ambitious about his son by not acting upon the witches prophesies and telling fleance to ‘fly’ Banquo isn’t selfish but thinks of others and has the good kind of ambition
How does lady macbeth show her ambition through convincing macbeth to murder duncan
lady macbeth bullies macbeth throughout the play by calling him weak and i masculine ‘when you dust do it then you were a man’ because she has ambition to have power we know this as she says ‘unsex me here’
When does macbeth initially start showing ambition in the play?
he initially starts to have ambitions to kill the king after seeing the witches ‘my thought whose murder yet is but fantastical’ this quote could suggest the start of his downfall

malcom, banquo and macduff showed ambitions for their country where as Macbeth and Lady Macbeths ambition is to have power
how does ambition change in macbeth from start to finish
at the beginning he’s classed as a ‘hero’ when Duncan calls him ‘noble’ and ‘brave Macbeth’ as he fights for other but in contrast at the end he is referred to as a ‘ruthless killer’
