Power
the person who has the power in the relationship is the person who cares the least.
6 types of interpersonal power
Referent power: people person, get people to like you (personable)
Expert power: influenced by individuals because of who they are and their experience (rational)
Reward power: individuals can give you something (realistic)
Coercive power: the individual can hurt you/punish you so you listen to them (lack of self-confidence)
Legitimate power: listen to those who have authority (submissive to authority)
Informative power: listen to individuals because of the information (logical)
6 types of powerplays (mind games)
Bullying: an abusive act committed by one person to another and is mostly patterned, over and over and over
Nobody upstairs: get caught doing something and play stupid
You owe me: a guilt trip
You got to be kidding me: gaslighting (turn it around on the other person)
Metaphors: compare things to other things
Thought stoppers: getting the other person to stop talking by giving too much info, talking too loud, screaming, mansplaining
