5 conflict management types
Define the conflict (define your needs, gunnysacking → don’t bring all your baggage to the one issue, avoid mindreading, don’t belt line → attacking at a psychological or emotional level at which the other person cannot withstand the blow)
Examine possible solutions (brainstorm)
Test the solutions (out loud)
Evaluate the solutions
Reject or accept solutions
4 horsemen of toxic conflict
Criticism: I wish you would be on time, we are going to be late. You are so thoughtless. Behavior-oriented
Defensiveness: denying responsibility/counterattacking. You’re crazy, I don’t do that, you are worse than me
Contempt: belittling or demeaning, name-calling. Person-oriented
Stonewalling: shutting down the dialogue
