Globalisation makes it much harder for cultures to exist in isolation from one another

Simulacra- things in our culture that are copied, replicated or fake
Media and advertising etc

People are isolated and dehumanised
Mass of populated show a lack of interest in social solidarity

Elaborate stories given to comfort people

- points out failures of theories rather than putting positives in place
- criticised for failure to accept not everything is hyperreal
