What are the borders of the posterior triangle?
SCM, trapezius and clavicle
What muscles separates the posterior triangle into two subtriangles?
Inferior belly of omohyoid
Occipital and supraclavicular triangle
What makes up the floor of the posterior triangle?
Prevertebral fascia
What nerve passes through the posterior triangle?
Spinal accessory N
What are the cutaneous nerves of the posterior triangle?

Which muscles are in the posterior triangle?
SCM, anterior, middle and posterior scalenes
What is the origin and insertion for the SCM?
Origin: manubrium (sternal head) and middle 1/3 clavicle (clavicular head)
Insertion: mastoid process of temporal bone and lateral aspect of the superior nuchal line
What is the bilateral action of the SCM?
Flex the neck
What is the action of the SCM with the neck extensors?
Protrude and thrust head forward
What is the unilateral action of the SCM?
Laterally flex the head
Rotates the head and neck so ear approaches shoulder on same side and turns chin to opposite side
Tilts head to one side
What innervates the SCM?
Spinal accessory nerve (CN XI)
What is the origin and insertion of the anterior scalene?
Origin: tubercles of TP C3-6
Insertion: 1st rib
What is the origin and insertion of the middle scalene?
Origin: tubercles of TP C2-7
Insertion: 1st rib
What is the origin and insertion of the posterior scalene?
Origin: tubercles of TP C5-7
Insertion: 2nd rib
