Role of the accessory nerve
A
- supplies Sternocleidomastoid and trapezius
Three parts
Upper - elevates scapula
Middle - retraction of scapula
Lower fibres go inferiority

A
Small bean shaped
- filter lymph
- offer defence against the spread of infection
- returned to larger veins

A
Drain lymph in face, neck and scalp

Left jugular trunk passes thoracic artery, left subclavian vein
