Posterior Thigh Muscles Flashcards
3 muscles in posterior compartment of thigh
- biceps femoris (long and short head)
- semitendinosus
- semimembranosus

origin -
insertion -
O: ischial tuberosity
I: medial surface of proximal tibia (pes anserinus)
Semitendinosus:
innervation -
function -
innervation: tibial part of sciatic n.
function:
- extend thigh
- flex leg
- internally rotate flexed leg
- contribute to trunk extension
Semimembranosus:
origin -

O: ischial tubersoity
I: posteromedial aspect of proximal tibia
Semimembranosus:
innervation -
function -
innervation: tibial part of sciatic n.
function:
- extend thigh
- flex leg
- internally rotate flexed leg
- contributes to trunk extension
Biceps Femoris
