Posterior Neck Flashcards
SCM OIIA
Origin: Sternal head - manubrium, clavicular head - medial 1/3 of clavicle
Insertion: mastoid process
Innervation: accessory nerve
Action: unilaterally - flex the head and neck laterally, rotate head to opposite side; bilaterally - extend upper cervical and flex lower cervical
Splenius capitis OIIA
Origin: spinous process of C7-T3 and ligamentum nuchae
Insertion: mastoid process
Innervation: posterior rami middle (C1-C6)
Action: ipsilateral rotation of heat; extension and lateral flexion of spine and head
Posterior scalene OIIA
Origin: posterior tubercles of transverse processes of vertebrae C5-C7
Insertion: lateral surface of 2nd rib
Innervation: anterior rami of C6-C8
Action: elevation of 2nd rib and lateral flexion
Middle scalene OIIA
Origin: posterior tubercles of transverse process of vertebrae C2-C7
Insertion: upper surface of 1st rib
Innervation: anterior rami of C3-C8
Action: elevation of rib 1
Anterior scalene OIIA
Origin: anterior tubercles of transverse processes of vertebrae C3-C6
Insertion: scalene tubercle on the 1st rib
Innervation: anterior rami of C4-C6
Action: elevation of rib 1
Posterior triangle boundaries
-anteriorly: posterior edge of SCM
-posteriorly: anterior edge of trap
-inferiorly (basally): middle 1/3 of clavicle
-superiorly (apically): occipital bone
2 posterior triangles
-occipital
-omoclavicular or subclavian
Where do the transverse cervical artery branches travel to
-superficial: deep surface of trap
-deep: deep surface of rhomboids
Where does the suprascapular artery travel to
posterior surface of scapula
Where does the 3rd part of subclavian a emerge? Where does it become axillary a?
between anterior and middle scalene
lateral border of rib I
What are the branches of the thyrocervical trunk?
transverse cervical and suprascapular arteries
What forms the cervical plexus?
anterior rami of cervical nerves C1 to C4
What does the transverse cervical nerve supply? Nerve roots?
lateral and anterior part of neck
C2 and C3
What does the supraclavicular nerve supply? Nerve roots?
skin over clavicle and shoulder
C3 and C4
What does the lesser occipital nerve supply? Nerve root?
skin of neck and scalp posterior to the ears
