Posterior lower limb Flashcards
Superior gluteal artery
Branch of internal iliac
Through the greater sciatic foramen, superior to piriformis
Superficial—>G Max
Deep: travels b/w medius and minimus
-Superior branch: to TFL fossa
-Inferior branch: trochanteric fossa
Inferior gluteal artery
branch of internal iliac
passes via greater sciatic foramen inferior to piriformis
1) Muscular–> g max and ischial tuberosity muscles
2) Anastomosic branches to cruciate
3) Branch to sciatic n.
4) coccygeal–>gmax and subcut coccyl region
5) Cutaneous–> accompany posterior femoral cutaneous n.
Superior gluteal nerve
L4,5-S1
sacral plexus–>great sacral foramen above piriformis (w/ sup gluteal a and v.)
–>b/w medius and minimus
innervates medius, minimus, TFL
Inferior gluteal n.
L5-S1,2
sacral plexus–>greater sciatic foramen anterior to piriformis–> directly into G max
Sciatic nerve
L4,5-S1,2,3
Largest peripheral nerve of the body and sacral plexus
exits pelvis thru greater sciatic foramen –>passes anteriorly thru the piriformis –>superficial to deep lateral rotators–>posterior surface of magnus–>
Tibial n
branch of sciatic n
innervates teh semi-m, semi-T, and LH of biceps femoris and ischiocondylar region of adductor magnus
anterior divisions of ventral rami of spinal nerves L4-S3
Common fibular n
branch of sciatic n.
SH of biceps femoris
posterior divisions of ventral rami of spinal nerves L4-S2
