Femoral Anterior/Medial Muscles Flashcards
Psoas Major
O: Anterior bodies and TPs of last thoracic and all LVs and IV discs
I:Lesser Trochanter
A: F and LR thigh (strongest flexor
strong flexor of the trunk if the feet are fixed and sidebending
N: VR spinal nerves L1-3
Iliacus
O: Iliac fossa
I: with psoas major to lesser trochanter
A: F and LR of thight
N: femoral n. (L2,3)
Sartorius
O: ASIS I: Medial dibia below condyle with gracilis and semi-T as pes asernius A: F and MR leg f and LR thigh abducts lower limb when knee is locked "tailors's position" N: femoral n.
Rectus Femoris
O: Straight head: AIIS
reflected head: superior brim of acetabulum
I superior surface of patella to tibial tuberosity via patellar ligament
A: Flexion of thigh, extension of leg
N: femoral n.
vastus lateralis
O: anterolateral surface of the femur
I: lateral patella to tibial tuberosity via patellar ligament
A: E of leg
N:femoral n.
Vastus medialis
O: anteriormedial femur
I: medial patella and TT via PL
A: E of leg, assists in maintaining patellar tracking (due to oblique orientation of fibers which pull on patella during extension
N: femoral n.
Vastus intermedius
O: Most of anterior surface of the femur
I: deep tendon of rectus and medialis
A: E of leg
N: femoral
Articularis genu
deepest part of vastus intermedius that prevents synovial lining from being pinched during knee extension
Pectineus
O: superior pubic ramus (pectineal line)
I: Posterior femur below lesser trochanter (pectineal line)
A: adduction, flexion assists with rotation of thigh ( think walking up a step)
N: femoral n. obturator, or both: accessory obturator n.
Adductor longus
O: body of pubis
I: middle and medial linea aspera
A: adduction, flexion, assists with rotation of thigh
N: anterior obturator n.
Adductor Brevis
O: inferior pubic ramus
I: middle and medial linea aspera
A: adduction , flexion and assists in rotation of thigh
N: anterior obtruator n.
Adductor Magnus
O: Ischiopubic ramus
I: medial femur below lesser trochanter to adductor tubercle
A: Adducts the thigh when all fibers are acting
Proximal fibers:adducts, and flexes, assists with rotation
Distal: adducts, extends and assists rotation
N: Proximal: poster div of obturator n.
distal: Tibial n.
Gracilis
O: inferior pubic ramus near symphysis
I: Medial tiba below condyle with sartorius and ST at pes anserinus
A:adducts thigh, flexes and MR the leg
n: Anterior obturator
Obturator Externus
O: Outer surface obturator membrane and outer obturator forament
I: Trochanteric fossa
A: lateral rotation of thigh ( because it inserts behind the femur)
N: Obturator n. posterior div
