Popliteal Fossa and Foot+ muscles Flashcards
Borders of the popliteal fossa
Superior-Lateral: tendon of biceps femoris
Superior-Medial: semimebranosus (some semiT)
Inferiorlateral: lateral head of gastroc
Inferiormedial: medial head of gastroc
roof: popliteal fascia of fascia lata
floor: posterior surface of the capsule and popliteus muscle
Contents of popliteal fossa
1) posterior femoral cutaneous n.
2) sciatic n.
3) tibial n. (muscular and cutaneous)
4) fibular n. ( cutaneous only)
5) popliteal v.
6) popliteal a.
7) popliteal lymph nodes
Nerves are superficial, Artery is deep
Superficial transverse metatarsal ligament
made up of transversely oriented fibers of the deep layer of the plantar fascia
Medial compartment
flexor hallucis brevis
abductor hallucis brevis
flexor hallucis longus
medial plantar vessels and nerves
Lateral Compartment
abductor digiti minimi
flexor digiti minimi
central compartment
deep to plantar aponeurosis FDB Lumbricals quadratus plantae adductor hallucis FDL lateral plantar vessels
Interosseous compartment
b/w planter and dorsal interosseous fascia and contains IO muscles
Abductor hallucis
O: Calcaneus I: proximal phalanx of great toe A: abducts great toe N: Medial plantar n. 1
Abductor digiti minimi
O: calcaneus I: proximal phalanx of 5th digit A: Abducts the 5th digit N: lateral plantar n. 1
Flexor digitorum brevis
O: Calcaneus I: middle phalanges of toes 1-4 A: flexes middle and proximal phalanges fo 1-4 N: medial plantar n. 1
Quadratus Plantae
O: Calcaneus I: Tendon of FDL A: pulls of FDL so flexion of digits is directed posterior N: lateral plantar 2
Lumbricals
O: tendons of FDL I: medial MP joints via tendons A: Flexes MP, extends DIP N: 1st: medial plantar 2nd-4th: lateral plantar n. 2
Flexor hallucis brevis
O: Cuboid and cuneiform
I: lateral and medial proximal phalanx of great toe
A: flexes great toe
N: medial plantar n.
3
has two heads that split to allow the FHL to pass thru
Flexor digiti minimi
O: 5th MT I: prox phalanx of 5th digit A: flexes and abducts the small toe N: lateral plantar n. 3
Adductor hallucis
O: Oblique head: 2,3,4 MTs
Transverse head: lateral plantar ligaments of MP joints
I: lateral proximal phalanx of great toe
A: adducts and flexes great toe
N: Lateral plantar n.
