posterior ab wall Flashcards
where does the psoas major attach?
proximal: transverse process of L vertebrae, sides of T12-L5 and intervening intervertebral discs
distal: lesser trochanter of femur.
what is the action of iliacus? which nerve innervates it?
action: flexes thigh, stabilises hip joint, acts with psoas major.
innervation: femoral nerve.
where does iliacus attach?
proximal: superior second third of iliac fissa.
distal: lesser trochanter of femur and psoas major tendon.
what is the action of quadratus lumborum? which nerve innervates it?
action: extends and laterally flexes vertebral column and fixes 12th rib during inspiration.
innervation: T12 and L1-L4 nerves.
what are the attachments of quadratus lumborum?
proximal: medial half of inferior border of 12th rib and tips of L transverse processes.
distal: iliolumbar ligament and internal lip of iliac crest.
what is the action of psoas major? what nerve innervates it?
action: flexes thigh, flexes vertebral column laterally, balances trunk.
innervation: L1, L2 L3
