muscles of arm Flashcards
what are the proximal and distal attachments of triceps bracchi?
distal: proximal end of olecranon of ulna and fascia of forearm
proximal - lateral: posterior surface of humerus superior to radial groove.
proximal - medial: posterior surface of humerus inferior to radial groove.
proximal - long: infraglenoid tubercle of scapula
what is the action and function of anconeus? what nerve is it innervated by?
action: assists triceps in extending forearm and abducts ulna during pronation
function: stabilises elbow joint
innervation: radial nerve
what is the action and function of biceps bracchi? what nerve is it innervated by?
action: supinates forearm, flexes forearm
function: short head resists dislocation of shoulder
innervation: musculocutaneous nerve
what are the distal and proximal attachments of biceps bracchi?
distal: attached to tuberosity of radius and fascia of forearm via bicipital aponeurosis.
proximal - short head: tip of coracoid process of scapula.
proximal - long head: supraglenoid tubercle of scapula.
what is the action and function of coracobrachialis? what nerve is it innervated by?
action: helps flex and abduct arm.
function: resists dislocation of shoulder.
innervation: musculocutaneous nerve.
what are the proximal and distal attachments of coracobrachialis?
proximal: tip of coracoid process of scapula.
distal: middle third of medial surface of humerus.
what is the action of brachialis? what nerve is it innervated by?
action: flexes forearm in all positions.
innervation: musculocutaneous nerve.
what are proximal and distal attachments of brachialis?
proximal: distal half of anterior surface of humerus.
distal: coracoid process and tuberosity of ulna.
what muscles are supplied by musculocutaneous nerve?
BBC - biceps bracchi, brachialis and coracobrachialis.
what is the action and function of triceps bracchi? what nerve is it innervated by?
action: chief extensor of forearm
function: long head resists dislocation of humerus
innervation: radial nerve
what are the origins of biceps bracchi?
short corner, long surprise
short head originates from coracoid process
long head originates from supraglenoid cavity.
which muscles flex the elbow?
3 B’s
brachialis
biceps bracchi
brachioradialis
