extrinsic back muscles Flashcards
what are the proximal and distal attachments of trapezius?
proximal: medial third of superior nuchal line, external occipital protuberance, spinous processes C7-12
distal: lateral third of clavicle, acronion and spine of scapula
what nerve innervates trapezius?
spinal accessory nerve
what does latissimus Dorsi?
extends, abducts and medically rotates humerus
what are the proximal and distal attachments of latissimus Dorsi?
proximal: spinous processes of 6 inferior T vertebrae, thoracolumbar fascia, iliac crest
distal: floor of intertubucular sulcus of humerus
which nerve innervates latissimus Dorsi?
thoracodorsal nerve
what does the levator scapulae do? what nerve is it innervated by?
elevates scapula and rotates its Glenoid cavity inferiorly.
innervated by dorsal scapular nerve.
what does each part of trapezius do?
descending: elevates
ascending: depresses
Middle part: retracts scapula
descending + ascending: act together to rotate Glenwood cavity superiorly
where does levator scapulae attach?
proximal: posterior tubercles of transverse processes of L1-L4
distal: medial border of scapula
what does the rhomboid minor and major do? and what nerve innervates these muscles ?
action: retract scapula and rotates its Glenoid cavity inferiorly
function: fix scapula to thoracic wall.
innervation: dorsal scapula nerve
what are the proximal and distal attachments of rhomboid minor?
proximal: nuchal ligament and spinous processes of C7-T1.
distal: smooth triangular area of at medial end of scapular spine.
what are the attachments of rhomboid major?
proximal: spinous processes of T2-T5.
distal: medial border of scapula.
what are the proximal attachments of deltoid muscle?
CLASPS
clavicle, acromion, SPine of Scapula
what is the innervation of the deltoid muscle?
axillary nerve.
what does the deltoid muscle do?
abduction, flexion and extension of shoulder.
what is the insertion of deltoid muscle?
deltoid tuberosity of humerus.
