Subjective well-being (SWB)

refers to people’s emotional and cognitive evaluations of their lives.

- Positive Affect (PA) – Frequency of positive emotions.
- Negative Affect (NA) – Frequency of negative emotions.
- Life Satisfaction – A cognitive judgment about life as a whole.

- Bottom-Up Theories: SWB arises from satisfaction in life domains (job, relationships, etc.).
- Top-Down Theories: Personality sets a general tone that shapes experiences and satisfaction.

SWB is largely determined by personality, particularly extraversion and neuroticism.
