- The economy and people perception of it. 2.Healthcare and Obamacare 3. Income and gender inequality 4. Foreign policy and all the major world problems
How do voters make their decisions?
people tipically vote against the sitting president. People perceive candidates as competent, trustworthy, etc. based on appearances.
What is social capital?
Social capital is the networks people for with people doing things such as participating in organized activities.
Why has it declined in this country?
longer hours at work, also urban sprawl, the entry of women into the workforce, since women do more organizing of social events than men. but more than anything media and television in particular.
What are the implications of the decline?
degrades education, causes unsafe neighborhoods, reduces economic prosperity, affects personal health and happiness, and even lowers the effectiveness of our democracy. Also empathy.
What is the New Gilded Age?
The largest share of national income is going to the top one percent and has followed a great U-shaped arc. since 1980 the one percent has seen its income share surge again—and in the United States is back to what it was a century ago.
What is the origin of the phenomenon of the gilded age?
We are back to “patrimonial capitalism” which the commanding heights of the economy are controlled not by talented individuals but by family dynasties.
what are some solutions for the gilded age?
- Increase in taxation of wealth and inheritance(must be global) 2. Use these taxes to invest in things such as education and infrastructure which will help everyone prosper.
