What are the push factors of rural to urban?
More jobs/higher wages
Better services
What are the push factors of urban to rural?
Too populated
Too much traffic, pollution, waste
In LEDCs it leads to squatter settlements
What happens in rural areas due to urbanisation?
Population decreases
Old people left behind as young people move
Services have to close
What can be done to manage the impacts of urbanisation in urban areas?
Build more houses
Reduce traffic/pollution by encouraging public transport, cycling ect

Improve transport to make it easier for people to live in rural and work in urban

More demand on houses = increased prices
People use shops close to work, causes local shops to close
How can you manage the impacts of counter urbanisation in rural areas?
Stop people buying more than 1 house, so there’s enough for all
Invest in services

Become rundown and disused - shops/services close down

Redevelop/regenerate them - make them more attractive/improve services ect
