Q

6 physical factors affecting population distribution and density

A

1) Relief = mountainous regions such as Nepal are sparsely populated due to hard to build on steep ground.
2) Climate = too hot (Sahara desert) or too cold places are sparsely because day to day life is harder and lack of rain = drought = hard to farm.
3) soil = Ganges valley is densely populated as there’s fertile soil to grow food to eat or sell.
4) natural resources = NE USA is densely populated as there’s lots of coal so people move for industry/wealth/trade.
5) location = coastal areas like Rio are denser than inland due to history = next to harbour to trade worldwide.
6) natural hazards = Haiti is sparsely populated as earthquakes destroy livelihood

Q

Human factors affecting distribution and density

A

1) government investment = Brazil golden triangle is densely populated as government investment will make living standards better so more job opportunities, better transport links, better housing and more things to do like shopping.
2) politics = Zimbabwe is sparsely populated due to lack of stable government and corruption so people will feel their rights will not be looked after. People want democracies.

4) education = Germany is densely populated as it has a strong education system, many families will want their children to get good qualifications and a better future for their children.
5) healthcare = uk is densely populated as it has the NHS which is an advanced and free healthcare system which attracts people as it can allow them to live a longer life if anything goes wrong.
6) industry = Great Plains in USA is sparsely populated as the main industry is farming which means a lot of land is required to support a few people.
