C - Cruel and violent - To reflect the harsh living conditions of the lower-class.

W - Wagering - A way for the lower class to make some extra money (rags to riches) or for the rich to boost their status.
N - Natural - no purpose-built facilities so sports had to be played using the natural environment
S - Simple/unwritten rules - The majority of the lower-class were illiterate so rules had to be simple.
R - Rural -The majority of the lower class lived in the countryside
O - Occupational - The sport was based on people’s jobs
C - Courtley/Popular - Courtly means it was done by the rich, popular means it was done by the poor
