Pop Eco Flashcards
What is the relation with death and birth to population growth
It keeps the population constant and also determines it.
Is immigration and emigration the same as the relation with death and birth?
Yes.
The variable N means
population size
what variable stands for time?
t
dN/dt and r both initially mean
growth rate
In order to show how exponential growth changes in a graph you should..
you must have no limitations and keep your growth increasing.
If you have a carrying capacity in a model of population size, what kind of growth is it?
logistic growth
k, carrying capacity, means what?
the maximum amount in a population
if a graph starts off slow and ends slow, it’s most likely
a model of logistic growth
This growth usually has a straight line ascending at a constant speed when based off of growth rate
exponential growth
When r is increased or decreased in a model of exponential or logistic growth, what changes?
how steep the line is, indicating how fast or slow it goes.
When a population growth is density-dependent, what type of growth is that and why does it happen?
Density-dependent is when there is limitations and it is always logistic growth.
What does density independent mean?
When the population growth doesn’t have limitations.
In a logistic growth model, why does the population get smaller when K gets smaller?
Because K is the carrying capacity or the maximum amount of a population and therefore can’t get higher than the number put in for K
