3.1 Flashcards
biotic and abiotic resources that species uses and where, when, and it uses them.
niche
realized niche
where it could actually live based on reality
fundamental niche
where it could possibly live in expectations
difference between facultative and obligatory
Faculative are independent and use other species to help them live while obligatory are dependent on the other species and can’t live without them.
Mutualism
(+/+) when all species are benefitted, bees and flowers
Commensalism
(+/0) when one side benefits and the other is not bothered, orchids growing on branches
what kind of difference do the difference amounts of overlap between niches make
more competition the more it overlaps
Parasitism, Herbivory, and Predation occur when
a species benefits from negatively impacting another
Predation
(-/+) a species that eats another species for their own gain, cheetahs and antelope
Herbivory
(-/+) one species eats the plant and the plants die, caterpillars and leaves
Parasitism
(-/+) when one species stays on another and takes its resources, leeches.
whats the differences between competition and mutualism
Mutualism will help everyone while competition just makes everything worse.
whats similar about commensalism and mutualism
they can benefit one species and not bother the other, not really benefitting like mutualism but very similar
three examples of ways species can partition
by food, time, and area
How can niche partitioning increase the biodiversity of a community?
it helps everyone live in peace and when everyone can live, that means its more appealing and more habitable, and so it increases its biodiversity
