Pool Cert Flash 1. Basic Pool Ops Flashcards
What is the most common bactericide?
Chlorine
What is a Chemical Feeder and what are some examples?
A mechanism for automatic addition of chemicals to swimming pool water. Proportioning pumps, injector type feeders, pot feeders operating on a water pressure differential, and dry-type feeders.
How often should bathhouse floors be sanitized?
Daily
What are some proper practices for restroom areas?
Floors must be free of standing water, kept clean and free from debris, facilities must be in good working order, floors must be sanitized.

Using weighted hand brushes to push dirt to the main drain, using suction cleaners to suck it out, and pool vacuum for larger pools - performed when pool is closed.
What are methods to clean debris on the surface of the water?
Hand skimmer, overflow gutter, and skimmer.
What is a Skimmer?
A skimmer is a device other than an overflow gutter for continuous removal of surface water and floating debris from a pool to the filter. Water level should be kept at the midpoint of skimmer, so water continuously flows over floating weir.
What is a Skimmer Weir?
Part of a skimmer that auto-adjusts to small changes in water levels to assure a thin layer of suface water flows to the skimmer.
Name ten daily tasks:
- Check recirculation pump and motor ops. 2. ops of disinfectant and pH chem. feeder. 3. measure and record chlorine and bromine residual and pH 2x daily (hourly w/ heavy use). 4. check filter ops and read gauges (backflush if necessary) and release closed filter air. 5. measure and record flow rate (clean flowmeter if needed). 6. clean pool bottom and surface if needed. 7. add make-up water for proper skimmer level if needed. 8. Clean/disinfect bathhouse floors and fixtures (restock supplies). 9. Wash deck with a hose and disinfect at least weekly. 10. Make entries into Daily Swimming Pool Operation Report.
What should be done every two weeks with supplies and equipment?
- Conduct inventory of all chemicals and supplies. 2. check recirculation pump efficiency (refer to pump curve and gauges). 3. Check and replace any needed or outdated medical supplies in first-aid kit (contents listed in Attachment 3)
List four basic units of a swimming pool:
Basin, pump, filter, chemical feeder
How many hours a day must the pool water be pumped through the filters and treated with bacteriacides?
24 hours a day
Spectators in clean footwear are allowed on the pool deak, T or F?
