Nasal polyposis : definition and grades

A

=> Presence of multiple soft, glossy and rounded formations deriving from the nose mucosa, occupying one or both nasal cavities and one or more sinuses cavities.

Grades :
° 1 : highest part of the nose
° 2 : medium floor
° 3 : entire nasal cavity

Pathogenesis and physiopathology

A

=> follows the release of substances with edemigenic action :

  • nasal hyperactivity
  • allergy
  • drug intolerance : AINS
  • fungal, bacterial infection
  • genetic conditions

Pathogenesis :

  • allergic theory
  • infectious theory
  • dissoudre of muccocillary clearance
  • intolerance to acetyl salisilitic acide (associated with asthma)

  • bilateral nasal obstruction
  • hyposmia / anosmia
  • mucosal rhinorrhea
  • snoring
  • craniofacial pain
  • dysgeusia

Diagnosis et diferencial diagnosis

A

=> Imaging ++ : nasal fibroscopy

  • Radio of the sinuses cavities ++
  • TDM
  • IRM

Ddg :

  • squamous carcinoma
  • sarcoma
  • angiofibromas
  • papilloma
  • melanoma
