What is polymyalgia rheumatic?

A

Inflammatory condition causing severe symmetrical aching pain across the shoulder, neck and pelvic girdle, associated with morning stiffness

A

Fatigue, weight loss, fever, reduced range of active movement

What is PMR often associated with?

A

Temporal arteritis (giant cell arteritis)

What investigations may be carried out?

A

CRP, PV and ESR are all raised
CK is usually normal
Temporal biopsy may confirm (beware skip lesions)

A

Corticosteroids

High-dose prednisolone if GCA
